Author depicts the wild world of online dating Miami Herald, FL - According to Elaine Adler, president of the Aventura Marketing Council, Bari Auerbach was a hit when she recently spoke before a group of 40 members of the council. Envelopes were handed out containing copies of the e-mails she put in her book. Once the envelopes were distributed, audience members were asked to read their e-mails out loud. The stunt proved to be a real icebreaker. 2007-01-01 Do less so you can enjoy the holiday more PERSPECTIVE CINDY HOEDEL Wilkes Barre Times-Leader, PA - Once you’ve crossed over to ready-made refrigerator dough, store-bought icing is an easy next step. Sure, it tastes vile, but nobody eats the cookies anyway. In my house, cookie baking is an excuse for our 12-year-old daughter and her friends to unleash their creative urges and play with icing you spray out of a can like Cheez Whiz. I bought some in red, green and white. I bought orange sprinkles, too — the only remaining color. Who cares? We’re talking cookies, not upholstery. 2006-12-30 Rockin' in the holidays The Record-Courier, NV - "We have a tree in our cafeteria," she said. "(CVRCC activities director Carol Wilson) sent us a list of names. This year was kind of different because a couple residents said 'surprise me.'" 2006-12-27 Check It Out News & Observer, NC - "Years ago when I lived 'up North,' my family was moving a mattress set, and when we came off a ramp, it flew out the back of the truck. We pulled over as soon as it was safe, which took only a minute, but we could not find the mattress anywhere. We always wondered what happened to the mattress until about six months later the newspaper did an article on homeless people and there in the photo was our mattress!! At least it was being put to good use." 2006-12-24 Points of no return Fort Worth Star Telegram, TX - The Texas Building and Procurement Commission is responsible for gathering up and reselling the forfeited items that the TSA collects at its security checkpoints in eight airports across the state, including Dallas/Fort Worth Airport and Dallas Love Field. Since its inception at the end of 2001, the TSA has donated all of its collected items to each state's surplus property division or to the federal General Services Administration. 2006-12-17 the Tories still don't have a prayer Telegraph.co.uk, United Kingdom - What is a labor voter? Or more to the point what is a conservative voter? The thing that never ceases to baffle me is how so many people can float around in the middle not knowing what the hell they should do in any given election. Perhaps I take a simpler more pragmatic view of things and boil it all down to just a few basic principals, ie socialism, means state control, high taxes, reduced incentives to the can do's verses the gimme attitude of the entitlement brigade, and conservatism means, smaller government and less state control, capitalist monetary policies, reward the can do's with tax incentives, and don't let the will not's squander the family silver. Am I alone? I can understand how many of you are wondering where Cameron fits in my overly simplistic painting and Mr Heffer certainly makes sure we do not miss the suttleties of Camerons march to the middle ground which is making "older" core tories uncomforatable, but as several point out, who else are we going to vote for in a Brown Cameron faceoff? Who in their right mind actually believes that the BNP (National Front)or the UKIP for that matter, have a snowballs chance in hell of prevailing at a general election? 2006-12-13 Google desktop, a good thing or a security risk? /Byte by Bite Union Democrat, CA - According to the folks at Wikipedia.org, "Google Desktop V.3 contains certain features that raise serious security and privacy concerns. Specifically, the Share Across Computers feature that introduces the ability to search content from desktop to desktop greatly increases the risk to users' privacy. If Google Desktop V.3 is set to allow Search Across Computers, files on an indexed computer are copied to Google's servers. The potential for information stored on their computers to be accessed by others if they enable this feature of Google Desktop V.3 on their computers should be seriously considered. Those who have confidential data on their work or home computers should not enable this feature." ( |
